Frequently Asked Questions

Why are trails important?
Trails can contribute to the quality of life for the people of Red Bluff by providing safe transportation routes, a place for healthy exercise and enjoyment of nature, a place for children to play. Trails bring visitors to the area and provide opportunities for restaurants, bicycle shops, and other new businesses serving the trail. They take us to good health and peace of mind. Trails connect us to our history and point us toward a better future.

How will the trails be maintained?
Maintenance and operations costs vary widely, depending on type of trail, level of use, climate, and many other factors. Costs can be greatly reduced by designing and building a trail the right way in the first place. For example, a trail that is wide enough for maintenance vehicle access can be maintained less expensively than one that requires walking in with equipment and supplies. Trained local volunteers can shoulder a certain amount of the routine maintenance of a trail - for example, picking up trash, monitoring the trail for maintenance and repair needs, and trimming trees and shrubs to maintain proper clearance.

How do I get involved?
Red Bluff Trails United is a local volunteer grassroots organization with the objective of building a trail in the community. The group is comprised of citizens from the local business community, school districts, and city officials with guidance from California State University, Chico. Open meetings are held on the second Thursday of each month at 3:45 p.m. in the Red Bluff City Council Chambers in City Hall, 555 Washington Street. Ideas, suggestions, or concerns are welcome and encouraged. If you have any questions, contact the Red Bluff Community Development Department at 530-527-2605.
